On Sorcery

Quote

“Daeryss was the first of many evil sorcerers I’ve seen in my time.  Sorcery is not a force for good or evil, it just is and how the Spire’s power is used depends on the wielder.  Some use it to do good, others to wreak havoc upon the world.  Governed by the Towers, the wizards and mages of your day haven’t a tenth of the power of those born before the Reckoning, let alone those born under the Full Radiance, but the choice to do good or evil remains.  Uranol, Horatin, Numkargol, the list goes on and on.  Surely your memory’s not so far gone that you’ve forgotten the Witchghoul’s wickedness?”  The Wizard of the Blue Lagoon

On Umbar

Quote

“It broke my heart, Jerilyn, to learn of it.  I knew Umbar in the days of old and he was a warm god, adventuresome in spirit and friend to all.  He did like to flex his muscles, so to speak, but not in spite.  He liked to challenge, it was his nature according to my uncle Indallar, and if anyone would have known, it was him.  ‘By Umbar’s frothy beard’ Indallar used to say… Umbar would have never begrudged the Maiden Her due or wanted the Devotees slain in his name.  He was not a jealous god.”    Kandol Elf Lord

On Promises

Quote

“All heroes of the Prophecies suffer from loneliness, it is the price exacted by the Balance.  Take me, for example.  My promises isolated me from those I loved most.  If not for Velora, I would be as mad as the God-Emperors.  Even Valdarag, who wore the mantle of the Warrior for only a short time, paid the toll when he became the Eternal Warrior.  I feel for Andis, she has been without others of her kind far longer than she deserves, but her loneliness, and mine, is nothing next to the loneliness born by he whom I shall not name.  He has truly been alone.”   Kandol Elf Lord
